Most single day trips to Lisbon visit the Alfama and Baixa districts. Alfama is an ancient district of narrow streets that climb from the river up to the castle. The Christo Rei statue is a statue of Christ that stands on the southern banks of the Tejo River. It is only a short bus journey from Costa da Caparica to the Christo Rei statue and is a recommended half day activity.

The coastline around Sesimbra is formed of small sandy coves and crystal clear waters, while the town has a calm and personal atmosphere.

The Castelo de Palmela

Palmela castle stands atop the highest hill of the region and provides stunning views over the surrounding region. The castle has been converted into an expensive hotel which has allowed the preservation of this magnificent building. The little village of Palmela below the castle is a pleasant and traditional destination which makes for a good half a day excursion.
